The great compensation for the dulling of our senses as we grow older is the sharpening of our wisdom. The art of seeing is an ability of the heart and mind more so than the eyes. So even as I put on my reading glasses to write this, I am certain that I have never been able to see so well. The world is a cloth of countless threads woven tightly together. We exist on one such thread, one path, that we follow from cradle to grave, and often we are so engrossed in our own affairs that we lose sight of the vast tapestry that we, ourselves, help to create. But other threads exist, simultaneous in time and place to our own, of the same cloth as our own, of soaring beauty and piercing ugliness. The art of seeing is the art of touching them enough to draw strength and wisdom while staying on our own path. It is the art of interweaving while remaining distinct.
